Abstract

Universities are facing many challenges in their efforts to introduce building information modelling (BIM) in education. While many research efforts have been dedicated to the subject, each of them has addressed some specific aspects of the issue. Thus, there is yet no comprehensive framework to provide decision makers with practical and neutral guidelines. The framework proposed in this paper identifies seven main groups of challenges: the skills to be acquired, the teaching approach, the evaluation methods, the technological environment, the industrial partnerships, the implementation approach and the timing. These challenges are also discussed in the light of a Canadian engineering school case study.
